The Fraggles will be interacting with Muggles
I read this weekend that a Fraggle Rock movie is in development. Today I read that Ahmet Zappa is at the helm. While I won’t be seeing it in theatres, I am kinda excited. I loved that show.
I can’t decide if this is a “cute movie tie in” or a little bit of subtle manipulation.
So cutting the wood for our microwave shelf the circular saw hit a knot in the wood and kicked back with enough force to bruise my palm where I held it. Luckily it doesn’t hurt to move my thumb, and my wrist didn’t get wrenched .
Fugly is the New Pretty
After seeing a number of links to this site here and there I spent some time Perusing the Go Fug Yourself site today. funny . I took special joy in the Oscar fug.
And as my cake baked I also had a chance to check out bunshine. A friend of my sisters.
Meanwhile, the reno continues, we put in the kitchen island today. Just has a rough top on in for now, but it makes the whole kitchen that much more workable.
Scarlette Dita
A while back I worked on a show that involved some research in to the world of burlesque. Its then that I learned about Dita Von Teese. International burlesque performer, pinup and fetish model Today I came across this. That is one magazine that will be flying off the shelves.
I hate baseball. Not because its boring and takes forever. And not because I basically consider it to be golf with jogging. I hate it because just when the TV season gets up and running the playoffs screw up the schedule. I want a new prison break.
Pick a card
I think I need business cards. OK. not really. but check these out
found here. The artist who created them had this to say
A hacker, entrepreneur, and all around mischief maker, Melvin wanted something he could give to peers and prospective clients that spoke of this nature.
A lockpick concept was chosen very early on, and the post production results were excellent. The picks can quite easily be removed from the card and are entirely functional as lockpicks.
Rhino-thingy
Spent most of yesterday curled up in fetal position, suffering from what I think was the flu. Stopped whimpering long enough to take the dog for a walk. Bad idea. It was freezing and I am not warm yet. Felt better today, My head is still killing me but got it together enough to bake pumpkin pie and prep some veggies for today’s turkey dinner. Today’s dog-walk was way more pleasant and I even got a new office chair out of it. It needs new padding on one arm, but the rest is in great condition.
learned that NBC has cancelled Kidnapped (smart move) and signed Heroes for a complete season. Funny, we had already dropped kidnapped and while I love heroes, mom thinks its nonsense. We haven’t committed to it yet.
Blame Canada
Its been a great week of tv. Mostly because of the Lost season premier. I have noticed a cluster of anti-Canadian remarks and references this week though. My favorite was on Law and Order C.I.
(heavy sarcasm)”A Canadian billionaire? Have you checked Ferris Bueller’s alibi?”
Its like watching an old movie and hearing all of the little barbs about Russians and Germans.
gotta knit
I now have a good reason to learn to knit. Knitta tagging the world one scrap of yarn at a time
Nuts!
Another peanut-free commercial. Aaaargh.
It makes me so frustrated to see the recent rash of peanut free advertising. Its not that I don’t think that there should be products available for people with nut allergies. The frustration comes from legislation of food labels. You see while its OK to say “low fat”, “peanut free”, “heart smart”,”low cholesterol”,”low calorie” etc… you are not allowed to label things “low carb” in Canada. Since Legislation came into effect (Dec, 2005) it has been increasingly difficult to find low carb products in Canada. Every time I see these peanut free commercials I am reminded of that.
the ban on “low-carb” and “low glycemic index” claims are justified on the basis that there are no clear guidelines for these terms. A superior policy alternative would have been to set standards and definitions, make guidelines and enforce them, just as is done with other products. Why was this approach not pursued?
Anyone who has ever bothered to read beyond the first page of the Atkins diet plan knows that it is not a diet that advocates “bacon & butter.” It is a healthy diet that calls for large quantities of fresh vegetables and fruit, good protein sources, nuts, legumes, and high fiber breads. It stresses the role of exercise and long-run, gradual weight reduction. Its focus is on creating a life-style change so that weight loss is maintained. Most people, unfortunately, get their information about low-carb diets from the media, whose stories are shallowly researched, misleading, and purposely sensational.
Sure, labeling things “peanut free” could potentially save a life. With the rising levels of obesity and diabetes , providing people with “low carb” options can do the same.
