Sweet Jesus
There has been a lot of press today about a chocolate sculpture of Jesus. Personally, I don’t get the fuss. It is the catholic church that perfected the art of religious iconography. Is the offence that he was created out of food? Nobody whines about the butter last supper, (or chocolate)and Jesus is part of that. I have seen chocolate Jesus candies before. So the medium surely can’t be the offence? Perhaps its that chocolate Jesusis dark chocolate and not white chocolate? maybe Jesus shouldn’t be edible? That would negate the portion of communion that says “this is my body, eat it in remembrance of me”. Maybe the person who first got upset is not a fan of Tom Waits? This isn’t the first time Jesus has been depicted naked. Surely it can’t be that? meh

mmmm shiny
I have always liked to flip through catalogues and go window shopping. This week I seem to spend a lot of free time greedily lusting after pretty things on-line.
Check out softwalls. I love the flexible elegance. So unfair that there is no Canadian distributor.
I found this today when I switched on the air purifier and thought, “how ugly”. clean air can be pretty. So can humid air.
These sparkly USB drives are also appealing. Although it is hard not to hate their name USB Bling. Icky isn’t it? USBling. good thing they are shiny.
New toy (sorta)
Its a week for experimenting.
Did ya notice the new layout? thought I needed a change for spring. Not sure that its a keeper but I thought I would live with it for a week.
In the mean time- playing in the kitchen…
Despite my love of light flaky pastry, I have always been afraid to try phyllo dough. This week I gave in, and I think its a “good thing”. There is certainly a required amount of coordination and speed involved, but nothing worth panicking over. Try it.
ogling the Irish
Its St.Patrick’s Day …what a great excuse to spend time with my boys

the upside of being slow
I have mentioned before that we don’t get current episodes of Veronica Mars, and for once its paying off. As rumors surface of cancellations and format changes, I can sit back, relax and enjoy. (Veronica in the FBI?)
another upside of being slow- the little things are amusing
The Onion breaks down the Secret
Previously I blogged about the load of tripe latest book that Oprah is recommending, The Secret. Today the Onion has highlighted the best tips from it
slacker
After becoming dependant on email, I had forgotten how slow snail-mail is. International snail-mail even more so. Today I got a postcard in the mail from Indonesia. My sister has been home for 3 weeks. I had forgotten what it is like to wait for mail.
I seem to be as slow as a snail with my posts these days…since my last post I have celebrated my birthday. Easy day, slept in, went for coffee, shopping dinner with my dad, cake and wine in the evening. The snow here has begun to melt and spring run-off has started.
I still have not heard from the doctor’s office, they seem to accept referrals at a snail’s pace. When I called my doctor’s office today to see what the story was, I got the impression that the referral had never been sent. I can’t say how frustrating this is. When I originally went to see my doctor, it was because my pain level had spiked dramatically. A month ago saying “I can wait for a pain prescription until there is a diagnosis” seemed wise. Today, when the pain is literally crippling and fatigue makes any activity endure for hours after the fact, I think that might not have been the smart choice. Now I wait. In the mean time I plan activity and recovery.
At least I have a new toy to keep me occupied. Slacker radio. good times, good music. And tomorrow (Thurs) is free coffee day at Starbucks. mmm. free coffee. And I have something to look forward to- the people at Stuff on My Cat are starting Stuff on my Mutt. Which my dog did not look amused about when I told him… go figure.
Civil liberties?
France has created a new law that bans citizen journalists from reporting violence. With this law,French citizens cannot film or broadcast acts of violence. While this is meant to prevent people committing violent acts just so their buddies can film them and blog about it, it is a law that can be used to silence people who disagree with the government. In essence French citizens no longer have the right to gather evidence of violent crimes perpetrated by agents of the government.
Starbucks 1, butter 0
New York City’s decision to ban artificial trans fats from restaurants has prompted some chains across the U.S. to do the same. Unfortunately, many people do not realize that there are naturally occurring trans-fats.
“Things like a New York ban on trans fats create hysteria, and when you create hysteria people overreact, and when people overreact they start taking whole food groups out of their diet because there might be a little trans in it,” he said
As such, when labeling requires you list trans-fats, vendors don’t want to say 1.5g naturally occurring trans-fats. This has prompted Starbucks to cut all bakery products containing butter. I feel this is totally ridiculous, What’s next? I will need to sign a waiver to order a latte with its naturally occurring trans-fats?
