A new hero
Kristen Bell will be joining the cast of Heroes for a few episodes. I can’t wait to see what her superpower is.
Trying something new
I decided not to use the inter-webs this week for more than 30minutes a day. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Now sitting here, on my day off, I feel like I may not catch up to my usual reading, so another link dump
News has begun to come out about the upcoming TV season
- while I like the daily premier schedule, I think I prefer this handy grid
-Nichelle Nichols joins the cast of heroes, even better Heroes news… there will be less of the Nikki/Jessica character
- James Marsters will have a recurring role on this falls schedule, admittedly not on a show I particularly enjoy, but I generally sit through it with mom, so now the show will have something to offer me.
-The new season of 24 is facing another setback
In the world of music- Duran Duran and Justin Timberlake is pop gold. And Mandy Moore’s cover of umbrella has made me hate that song a tad less. I am just as surprised as you are.
I’ll tell you where you can stick your fracking souvenirs!
More animal murder in the news. This time the slaughter of endangered Silverback gorillas. This time the murders were not souvenir or meat related, in fact the bodies were left intact. While this makes their deaths more puzzling, it makes it no less sad or disgusting. People make me sick.
Freakonomics Terror
I was sent a link today to the Freakonomics blog at the New York Times. Today’s blog post If You Were a Terrorist, How Would You Do It? has, unsurprisingly, gotten a bit of angry feedback. I am rather impressed with them for going beyond the taboo, and talking openly about terrorism. There are also a few great posts in the comments to that go beyond the notion “if we don’t talk about terrorism it won’t happen”. I kinda wish Levitt would have delved a bit deeper. I don’t know that his “sniper plan” with its random killings in the heartland would really play as powerfully in the media as a large and symbolic attack like we saw on 9/11. I may have misinterpreted the motivation behind the Al qaeda terror attack, but I think killing on a small scale would not go to show that the Islamic world is mightier than the west. In any case, its worth a read, and a ponder.
Good day
Today was a day off and I took advantage of it. After sleeping in I made ebelskiver then made a pot of tea and slowly browsed the Ikea catalogue. After that, I did a bit of cloud watching as we were under a tornado warning. Then I popped in an episode of Young Riders. Holy cheesy music batman! Somehow in all that relaxing I still found time to surf the Internet and found a very exciting rumor-Kristen Bell is being considered for a role on Lost!
Spoiled
I’m spoiled. I know I shouldn’t brag, but its true. Nellie sent me a cheer the fuck up package(my words not hers) in the mail. good times. I now have hours of episodes of Young Riders to keep me occupied. Cute boys in leather, how can you go wrong?
That is way more exciting than other happenings around here. I am told the family reunion went well this weekend. I couldn’t go because of work. It was descendants of my great grandparents(12 kids) and their offspring. There is a secondary reunion coming in a month for just descendants of my gramma (10 kids). Which hopefully I can attend.
The garden is overgrown with slugs, many of I which I squished tonight with a predatory glee. The little vermin are almost zombie like. When I went out to survey the scene of my crime, their brethren were out dining on the carcasses. Luckily they only eating petunias and kohlrabi, not touching the green beans and zucchini that are not ready for picking.
Its not petroleum fun, but it passes the time
long time no post
The wedding was beautiful. It was great to see everyone and celebrate 2 wonderful people. The next day was consumed by the latest Harry Potter. The following Monday I started my new job.
That’s right, I am working again. I am only part time in the framing department at the local Michaels. Physically, its a lot, but I am enjoying it. I was upfront in my interview, so they are aware I am having ongoing medical concerns. They said they are willing to work around my issues, but time will tell. I can say at the end of my last shift my hip dislocated again, and everyone was quite kind and helpful.
so basically, I eat, I work, I sleep. I find time for some televised amusement. While I wasn’t entirely disciplined before, since the wedding I have had not had any wheat or dairy. There has been a lot of subtle changes and modifications to favorite dishes. Today dad picked up some soy cheese, and dairy free butter. Both of which were hard to locate without any milk protein in them. Stupid casein and caseinate are put into a lot of products .
I had the day off, so I spent it watering the garden, brushing the dog, watching an old Buffy (Hush), and generally staying off my feet.
