Freakonomics Terror

I was sent a link today to the Freakonomics blog  at the New York Times. Today’s blog post If You Were a Terrorist, How Would You Do It? has, unsurprisingly, gotten a bit of angry feedback. I am rather impressed with them for going beyond the taboo, and talking openly about terrorism. There are also a few great posts in the comments to that go beyond the notion “if we don’t talk about terrorism it won’t happen”. I kinda wish Levitt would have delved a bit deeper. I don’t know that his “sniper plan” with its random killings in the heartland would really play as powerfully in the media as a large and symbolic attack like we saw on 9/11.  I may have misinterpreted the motivation behind the Al qaeda terror attack, but I think killing on a small scale would not go to show that the Islamic world is mightier than the west. In any case, its worth a read, and a ponder.
