Cloverfield
Went and saw a movie at the theatre last night for the first time in forever. Not going to spoil Cloverfield for you, but will say I quite enjoyed it. I think if you go into it expecting nothing, you will enjoy it too. If you go into it expecting LOST, you will be disappointed. I will say that the whole thing is shot from the eye of an amateur holding a handheld camera, it is shaky and confusing to watch at times. I didn’t find it as hard to watch as the Blair Witch Project, which was shot with the same p.o.v. Mostly I am happy I saw it before I read a spoiler or had some dummy ruin the intrigue for me.
Work, work, work, movie, nap
that about sums things up here. We had a huge sale last week, and that kept things quite busy. To put it in perspective, it used to be a busy day had me taking 5 orders. On Thursday I took 19!I am happy to be past the big sale at work and have our first week of no discounts since October.
Watched the Bourne Ultimatum last night. Over Christmas I had heard a couple of bad reviews, but I quite enjoyed it. It was well paced, the action sequences were just violent enough, and it managed to continue Bourne’s story while incorporating a lot of the details of the previous films. I am hoping they make the non-creator sequels into films too.
mp3 player=good
We are a week into the new year and I am already wondering how I made it through last year without my mp3 player. While I had originally thought I would like to load a book onto it, I know want to pack it with new music. It has been a while since I bought music rather that listening to it on-line, so my collection is a little dated. Before I begin purchasing new music I need some questions answered
- is it better for the computerly ungifted (i.e. me) to purchase music on disc so there is no chance of losing the music to the blue screen of death?
- what is a “reasonable” amount to spend on music?
- how do you I figure out where to start?
Is that un-Canadian?
Our local bylaws regarding sidewalks are what I would consider “common sense.” All snow must be removed from public sidewalks within 24 hours of the last snowfall. Additionally, homeowners are not supposed to run hoses and power cords across the sidewalks as they cause a tripping hazard. Here in the land of block heaters, we tend to overlook power-cords running across the sidewalk.
happy new year- have some random
and that, boys and girls, was a month without blogging.
What does one do when they are not blogging? Well, when that month is December then they are pretty busy. Here is the point form summary of sorts. After which I shall endeavor to blog like a sensible person who is concerned about maintaining their readership, OK?
work- the “expert framer” has left the building.. which is to say, she quit leaving the week before Christmas. The position is open, and I have put in a letter of application. Why? partly because its “what you are supposed to do”. With my medical state, I have been far from normal, and this is sort of a grab at normal. The position has guaranteed hours, a raise in pay and benefits after 3 months. whee. Also, just as motivating, while I think my co-worker is a sweet girl, she is not management material. With my frame shop manager being pregnant, someone will need to be in charge when she goes on mat leave. What management doesn’t know (and I didn’t know when I submitted my letter) is that she plans to quit before then.
Christmas- was nice, ate lots of food that I should no longer be eating, got many a thoughtful gift and watched some good movies. Brother and girlfriend came, which was pretty draining. I didn’t get all of my baking done, have three mixed and unbaked bowls of dough sitting in the fridge. Happily mom was more productive than I so there were plenty of cabbage rolls.
Mom has headed back to Vulcan for an undetermined amount of time. I seem to blog less when she is around, so her trip away should help me get back in the swing. I also hope to do some actual reading of books before she gets back. While there is a large stack of novels piling up, I don’t know where I will start. What I want to do is locate a good site to download books on mp3. A great way to pass the time without having to carry a heavy book to and from work.
Now I am waiting not so patiently for Canada post to deliver a package I ordered. Michelle graciously made time to pimp my cane. Not only will it be practical, helping my hands not to get chilled by the aluminum shaft and brass coupling that connects the handle, but every time I look at it it makes me smile. I think if it were striped someone may think that knitta tagged my cane.
